BEYOND ETHICS: ANIMAL WELFARE AS AN ECONOMIC GAME-CHANGER IN SOUTHWEST NIGERIA

ANIMAL WELFARE

At the DAWN Commission, we understand that the future of Southwest Nigeria’s livestock sector hinges on the adoption of humane and sustainable livestock practices. In response, we launched PAAWS (Promoting Animal Awareness and Welfare in the Southwest)—an initiative committed to enhancing animal treatment, health, and productivity across the region. We believe that healthy animals contribute to a stronger economy, improved food security, and better public health outcomes.

This document, titled “Beyond Ethics: Animal Welfare as an Economic Game-Changer in Southwest Nigeria,” marks the first installment in a series of programs under the PAAWS initiative. It is designed to engage farmers, agricultural policymakers, and the general public across Southwest Nigeria. The document explores the concept of animal welfare and underscores its potential to transform the region’s economy when prioritized and properly implemented.
