Traders and owners of commercial vehicles transacting business under the Lagos Garage Bridge in Ijebu-Ode have been ordered to vacate the place to allow for free flow of traffic in the axis. The Chairman, Ijebu Ode Local Government, Arc Gbolade Oduwole, accompanied by his counterpart from Ijebu-Ode South Local Council Development Area, Hon. Lekan Adebanjo and the Corps Commander, Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps(TRACE), Commander Seni Ogunyemi gave the order during an inspection tour of the area.
Speaking, the Ijebu-Ode Local Government Chairman decried the hindrances caused by activities of commercial drivers operating around the area, saying apart from posing serious danger to the lives of passengers and traders as well as vehicle owners, it also obstruct free flow of traffic.
"We want the full cooperation of the owners of commercial vehicles packing under the bridge to desist from the act, they should move to the garages around to pave way for free flow of traffic in the axis. Traders displaying their goods on walkways, roads side, and under the bridge should also move their wares as it poses danger to their lives apart from disruption of free flow of vehicular movement," Gbolade said.
The Corp Commander, Seni Ogunyemi corroborating the Chairman’s view, said commercial vehicles, motorcycles and traders were not allowed to operate under the bridge as anyone found guilty would face the full wrath of the law.
He urged officials of transport unions to educate their members on the need to transact their businesses at the approved motor parks and assist the state government in implementing its urban renewal drive by ensuring free flow of traffic in the area.
