On Tuesday, 23rd October, 2018, Representatives of the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Akure Field Office payed a Working Visit to DAWN Commission to explore areas of collaboration with the Commission. UNICEF was created seven decades ago by the United Nations General Assembly on 11 December 1946, to provide emergency food and healthcare to children across the globe.
On this note, UNICEF has shown a strong commitment to tackle the challenges children are faced with in Southwest Nigeria. The challenges discussed at the meeting include; the high rate of Out-of-School Children, Malnutrition (Especially children of Age 3 and under), Issues of Hygiene and Sanitation in Schools, Infant Mortality Rate among others.
Further to this, DAWN and UNICEF have agreed to combine efforts to ensure that children survive, grow and realise their full potential with the aim of reducing infant mortality rate as well as providing access to quality basic education
