DAWN Commission, on Tuesday, 31st July, 2018 facilitated a crucial meeting with the Special Advisers to the Governors of the States of Western Nigeria (SoWN) on Security and other Security Experts under the aegis of the Western Nigeria Security Committee (WNSC) in the city of Akure, Ondo State to discuss issues of Security in the Region.
The focus of the meeting was a thorough review of the current challenges facing the region which include herdsmen crisis in the region, the menace of the Okada riders, illegal mining activities going on in certain parts of the Region, migration of non-Yorubas into the region, militancy as well as other crimes visibly going on in the region.
It was then agreed at the meeting that the Governors of the States of Western Nigeria (SoWN) should as a matter of urgency implement the decisions reached by the committee so as to reduce criminal activities to the barest minimum.
The Director General of DAWN Commission, Mr. Seye OYELEYE, also emphasized on the need for the States to invest in the Security Infrastructure of the Southwest States in order to guarantee security of lives and property of residents in the Region.
He reiterated that in order to have a Law and Order Region there must be a sustainable framework in place for Homeland resilience, especially on issues of security.
The meeting, hosted by the Ondo State Government, had in attendance the Ondo State Hon. Commissioner for Regional Integration, Prof. Bayonile Ademodi, Rtd. Gen. Sam Odunsi, Rtd AIG. Ade Ajakaiye, Rtd CP Sam Adetuyi, Rtd state Dir. DSS, Lekan Odugbemi and all the Special Advisers to the Governors of the States of Western Nigeria on Security.
